I am both distanced from and deeply intertwined with the Austrian suburb where I live, as I move between the status of a neighbour and an expat from the US. By observing the residents and landscape while also staging scenes with actors throughout the town, my current ongoing work investigates these layers of identity and questions what roles we take on to find connection.

Margaret Westreich (*1986, New Jersey, US) lives and works in Linz. She received her bachelor‘s degree in music performance from Ithaca College, New York, in 2008. She then moved to Austria to study photography and design, and has since been working as an art director in Linz. Since 2023, she has been pursuing her MFA in photography through the limited residency international programme at the University of Hartford in Connecticut.
