Necrosis

At the age of 5, I was diagnosed with Perthes disease. Due to a circulatory disorder, bone tissue in the hip dies: necrosis.
Issues that have shaped me since my childhood, such as the instability of my body, my tilted position, bone fragility or the desire for a new leg are visualized in this project. Looking through the images of our family archive led me back to my younger self, which was mentally quite unstable due to this health condition. Some of these genetic characteristics were passed on to me ‘through’ my father’s shoes – until the time when I had to carry my own (shoe) mutations. From the origin, to the effects, to the therapeutic measures, ‘NECROSiS’ shows the internal path to myself using photoscans, self-taken and modified images. Within this process, I managed not only to learn new visual techniques, but also took a look back at myself, through the lens, carefully and courageously.
