Jesper Boot
Own your piece of the sky, 2017–ongoing
‘Own your piece of the sky’ is an ongoing project showing the ever-changing landscape in my own neighbourhood. Construction sites fill these streets and the sky and create endless new worlds of concrete and glass. By visually examining these harsh environments and repositioning the images I take, I create an almost utopian world, utilising the visual cues realtors use to seduce us.
Biography
Jesper Boot (*1996, Amsterdam, NL) lives and works in Amsterdam and graduated in photography in 2019 at the HKU. His work is often based on the facade of the everyday life, which he combines with larger themes such as politics and the contemporary mass image culture. In his graduation project ‘Power’ he photographed his own family as political figures. After his graduation he continued with the project, had several exhibitions and made a book in 2021. With an ever-present urge to create, most of his projects spread out over several years. His current project ‘Own your piece of the sky’ is a multiyear, visual research into his own changing and gentrifying neighbourhood.
