TUDO QUE VOCÊ PODIA SER (everything you could be) is the title of an exploration of the visual legacy of my Brazilian family history, (that I have access to). In three parts, I engage with the transmission of personal and historical knowledge, as well as systems of photographic organization. The first part consists of a family album that traces my father’s biography from his birth year until the year I was born. Through a combination of handwriting and text, I explore questions of memory, belonging, and identity. The second part deals with my father’s photographic heritage, who worked as a photographer in Hanover from 1988 to 1996. Since there was hardly any conversation about photography between us during his lifetime, I use this material to question visual narrative structures. In the third part, I abstract my father’s last, knowingly filmed conversation with his father in combination with historically grown narratives.
Biographie
Roxana Rios (*1994, Hannover, DE) lives and works in Leipzig. In 2017 they picked up a double study at HGB (Academy of Fine Arts) Leipzig and AdBK (Academy of Fine Arts) Nuremberg and studied under Heidi Specker and Juergen Teller. After graduating in 2020 they joined Isabel Lewis‘ class of the Performing Arts and received their Diploma in July 2023.
