FOTOHOF>CALLING was initiated by FOTOHOF in 2021 as a biennial open-call format focusing on the presentation of artistic photography projects. Since then, the project has expanded to include a magazine and public presentations. As an association comprising photographers and artists from different generations, FOTOHOF aims to contribute to the contemporary discourse on photography and promote exchange among artists. The format provides a space for the presentation and discussion of contemporary artistic positions. Alongside the publication of the magazine, events are held where artists present their projects and receive feedback from experts. Through their selection, the members of the FOTOHOF showcase a broad spectrum of the photographic scene. Works in progress are considered alongside fully developed projects. Emerging and established positions, as well as the diverse genres and currents within photography, are given equal consideration and discussed.

Presentations

The FOTOHOF team selects eleven artists from the submissions. The shortlisted artists are invited to Salzburg for a project presentation and a networking event. The project presentations take place in a confidential, non-public setting. For the presentation, the invited artists will bring their own prints and book dummies, which will be laid out on a large table and projected live into the room for those in attendance. Each participating artist has 30 minutes to present and discuss their project. The FOTOHOF team is supported in this process by invited external experts. Following the event, we invite the public to engage in a dialogue with the invited artists. The audience can explore the shortlisted projects as part of a pop-up presentation in the FOTOHOF workshop spaces.

Photo Projection

Following the project presentation in Salzburg, there will be an open-air projection of the longlist on the square in front of the FOTOHOF>GALERIE. Our external magazine presentations are also often accompanied by projections.

Magazine

The longlist is published in the FOTOHOF>CALLING magazine. While the print edition features a curated selection of images from the submitted projects, this website displays all submitted images. The FOTOHOF>CALLING magazine will be published as part of the FOTOHOF>EDITION publishing program. In addition to the magazine's release in Salzburg, further presentations of the magazine may follow as part of the publisher's activities both domestically and abroad.
