Open Call

FOTOHOF>CALLING is a biennial format that offers artists a platform to present their work in a professional context. As an association founded by artists and photographers, FOTOHOF aims to initiate a dialogue about contemporary artistic photography and promote exchange between artists. Eligible for submission is a photographic project that is no more than three years old and has not yet been shown in an institutional exhibition. The project may still be in development or already fully realized. Artists who live, work, or reside in Europe are eligible to participate.

Print & Web Publication
From the submissions, the FOTOHOF team will select approximately 25 artists who will be published online at calling.fotohof.at and in the FOTOHOF>CALLING magazine. A shortlist of ten artists will be invited to Salzburg for a project presentation and networking event. As part of FOTOHOF>EDITION, the magazine will be distributed at our festival and trade fair appearances. In addition to FOTOHOF>CALLING in Salzburg, further magazine presentations are planned as part of our publishing work in Austria and abroad.

Project presentations and networking event
FOTOHOF>CALLING will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in Salzburg. Ten artists are invited to present their submitted projects on site and discuss them with participants, selected guests, and the FOTOHOF team.

Open Doors, Magazine Release, and Projection
On Saturday evening, a public event will invite guests to network and exchange with the artists. The participants' previously presented projects will be shown in the form of a pop-up presentation in our workshop rooms. All positions from the FOTOHOF>CALLING magazine will then be shown in an open-air projection on Inge-Morath-Platz in front of the FOTOHOF>GALERIE.

FAQ

The primary purpose of FOTOHOF>CALLING is to increase the visibility of new projects or less established artistic positions. For this reason, the selection focuses on works that have not yet been presented in official exhibition contexts (in museums, galleries, festivals). Presentations as part of student/university theses and residency programs are exempt from this restriction.

For the submission, a project description (max. 1,500 characters), a biography (max. 500 characters), and up to 12 images (max. 2 MB per file, JPEG, long edge 1,500 px, 75 dpi) are required.

The images and texts submitted to the Open Call will be used for the magazine and website. If the submission is selected for the planned publication, the FOTOHOF team will contact you at a later date regarding print data.
