My ongoing project is a personal attempt to rediscover and appreciate the place where I’ve lived for over twenty years – a place I had overlooked for most of that time. Living in Southeast London was not a choice driven by a sense of connection, but rather a financial one. During that time, I worked in affluent parts of the city and returned every day to a place that felt invisible. 
That changed when my wife and I decided to move back to Poland. Against the backdrop of our move, I suddenly saw Southeast London through different eyes. I began to walk through my neighborhood with greater awareness and notice things I had previously ignored. What once felt empty began to reveal its own presence in textures, colors, and details. I photographed the same streets, buildings, and people as before, but my relationship with them had changed. I no longer felt disconnected from this place and began to understand how deeply it had shaped me.

Biografie

Michal Solarski, b. 1977 in Cieszyn (PL); lives and works in Kraków (PL) and London (GB). Solarski develops long-term photographic projects alongside exhibitions and publications. His practice focuses on place, memory, and lived experience, often based on close observation of everyday environments.
