Konrad Bryczek

The project documents fan conventions in Poland centered on fantasy, science fiction, manga, and anime. Alongside the visual aspect of the events, the project also focuses on the dedication and creativity of the fan communities that shape them. Numerous gatherings of this kind take place throughout the country, ranging from large-scale events in exhibition halls to locally organized meetings in schools or community centers.

The events are defined by the metamorphosis of the participants and the transformation of the specific event spaces into alternative realities that transcend everyday experiences. The worlds created by the fans can be surreal and thus defy traditional frameworks: they function as extensions of the universes and narratives of popular culture.

Biography

Konrad Bryczek, b. 1990 in Limanowa (PL); lives and works in Kraków (PL). Bryczek is working in documentary photography, with a particular focus on long-term projects exploring cultural phenomena and personal narratives. His work has been featured in exhibitions and photography festivals. He held a solo exhibition at the Frames of Sopot Photography Festival in 2025. In 2026, he was nominated for the Grand Press Photo award in the Photobook of the Year category. He is a graduate of the Institute of Creative Photography (Institut tvůrčí fotografie) at the Silesian University in Opava. Alongside his photographic practice, Bryczek is involved in art education and curatorial work in Kraków.
