Melanie Forsthuber

Through various analog editing processes and darkroom techniques, I reinterpret my personal image archive. The repeated alterations to the photographs, on aesthetic, thematic, and technical levels, give rise to new narratives; the images begin to elude any a specific temporal classification, and sometimes doppelgängers sneak into this seemingly melancholic world. I am particularly interested in questions that arise from this technical repetition. I examine my images in terms of categories such as unity and fragment, or autonomy and dependence.

Biografie

Melanie Forsthuber, b. 2000 in Grieskirchen (AT); lives and works in Salzburg (AT). Forsthuber is pursuing a master’s degree in teaching in philosophy and psychology at the University of Salzburg, as well as art and design in the photography and new media program at the Mozarteum University. [MK2] She also spent a semester abroad at the Academy of Art in The Hague. From 2024 to 2025, she lived in Galicia for several months, where, in particular, landscape photography was created.
