Rhune Bervoet

The French expression “entre chien et loup” refers to the moment of transition between day and night, a metaphorical description of the time when boundaries blur and certainties are called into question. I explore this transitional zone as both a mental and a visual space. It is a moment in which light and darkness, recognition and alienation flow into one another. “Entre chien et loup” symbolizes this ambiguity: a state in which safety and danger can no longer be clearly distinguished from one another. Viewers are left in a state of hesitation. Do the images offer comfort or do they instill unease; do they reveal a place of security, or do they hint at a latent threat?

This in-between space holds the potential for transformation and new possibilities. In my work, I use photography as a means to explore the realm beyond the visible. My images function as a membrane between the inner and outer worlds; they create space for the unconscious to unfold.

Biography

Rhune Bervoet, b. 2001 in Ypres (BE); lives and works in Ghent (BE). In 2024, Bervoet graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent with a master’s degree in fine arts. Her practice is primarily rooted in photography and explores the relationship between lived experience and the external environment in daily life. Bervoet is particularly interested in themes such as the notion of home and belonging, and the shifting boundaries between familiarity and estrangement.
