Oliver Schützinger

While country life is often portrayed as a romantic, slower-paced alternative to city life, this work reveals the façade of an idyll that has long since begun to crack. Instead of majestic landscapes, we see cluttered farmyards; the images depict the lasting impact of human activity on nature, as well as the internal contradictions of Austrian charm.
The series explores what has been left behind, forgotten, or discarded—what remains. In each image, the tension between nature and culture, natural order and human chaos, life and decay resonates. The result is a photographic reflection on longing and decay, and the duality of ideal and reality. “Idylle” is not a swan song, but a quiet observation—an attempt to discover, within the cracks and remnants of everyday life, that fragile beauty which can lend the concept of the idyll a new, contemporary meaning today.

Biography

Oliver Schützinger, b. 2009 in Graz (AT); lives and works in Graz. Schützinger is a third-year student at the HTBLVA Ortweinschule Graz, majoring in photography and multimedia art. In addition to graduation exhibitions at the HTBLVA Ortweinschule, his work has also been exhibited at Fotomonat Graz. In his work, he explores nature and humanity, structures and forms, as well as the impact of images on viewers.
